An HFC Replacement

A1 Refrigerants

A1 refrigerants, characterized by their non-flammable and lower toxicity properties, have long been the workhorse of the refrigeration industry. These refrigerants, often including established hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), are recognized for their stable performance and broad applicability across various cooling and air conditioning systems. While some A1 refrigerants face scrutiny due to their higher Global Warming Potential (GWP), they continue to be utilized in many existing applications where safety is a paramount concern and offer a baseline for performance and reliability that new alternatives must meet or exceed.

WHAT ARE A1 REFRIGERANTS:

A1 refrigerants are a class of refrigerants used primarily in air conditioning and commercial refrigeration systems. The designation “A1” comes from the ASHRAE safety classification, where:

• “A” indicates low toxicity.
• “1” signifies no flammability

R-515B

R-515B is a low-Global Warming Potential (GWP) hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) refrigerant blend. Developed as a lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) replacement for R-134a. It is designed for use in new medium-temperature commercial refrigeration applications like supermarket systems and stand-alone units.

R-513A

R-513A is a low-Global Warming Potential (GWP) hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) refrigerant blend. It is designed as a replacement for R-134a for medium temperature refrigeration applications. It's non ozone depleting and offers a good match for R-134a in terms of capacity and efficiency.

Lower GWP Alternatives

A1 refrigerants, distinguished by their non-flammable nature and lower toxicity classification, have historically served as the cornerstone of the refrigeration and air conditioning sectors. This category encompasses a range of refrigerants, including certain hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), celebrated for their consistent performance and wide-ranging use in diverse cooling applications. Although some A1 refrigerants are being phased down due to their environmental impact, their inherent safety characteristics ensure their continued relevance in specific applications where non-flammability is critical, providing a benchmark for the reliability and stability expected in refrigeration technologies.
