Refrigeration is an essential, often taken for granted, part of modern life. Whether at a massive industrial scale or in a household kitchen anyone could tell you the importance of refrigeration in their lives, or at least, how much pain life becomes when their home refrigerator goes on the fritz.

No matter the size, from a compact household refrigerator to a large industrial cooling system, all refrigeration systems rely on the same core components. In this blog, we will break down those key components and explain how each one contributes to the greater cooling process.

Understanding Heat Transfer

At its core, refrigeration is a process meant to remove heat from one area and expel it into another. Think of this like a sponge moving water from a bucket into a sink. If you put a sponge into a bucket full of water, the sponge will absorb some of the water and expand. If you were to then move the sponge to the sink and squeeze, the pressure of your hand would force the water out of the sponge.

Refrigeration works the exact same way. The refrigerant inside of a refrigeration system absorbs the heat when depressurized and expels heat when pressurized. By continuously pressurizing in one location and depressurizing in another, the refrigeration system can remove a significant amount of heat from an area, creating a cooled environment within an insulated space.

Zero Zone Systems Division Unveils Ramsey Location Remodel

RAMSEY, Minnesota – Zero Zone, Inc. is proud to announce the completion of a major expansion and renovation of its Minnesota facility, home to the Zero Zone Systems Division. Since the acquisition of Systematic Refrigeration in 2002, The Systems Division has seen exceptional growth resulting in an increasing need for capacity as well as additional office, testing, and training facilities.

The newly completed project adds 57,000 square feet to the facility. The production facility increased by 40,000 square feet including the addition of two production lines, double the loading capacity, and a dedicated pressure-testing area. Simultaneously, the entire production facility was reorganized to maximize material flow. These changes will allow Zero Zone to produce more refrigeration racks than ever before.

In addition to capacity increases, the facility now features a cutting-edge laboratory space for product development, testing, and training; an upgraded Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) area for verifying equipment; a 120-seat training center; multiple new conference rooms; and expanded office space to support increased staffing needs.
The expansion proves Zero Zone’s continuing commitment to its customers’ growth by growing alongside them. With significantly increased production capacity and operational capabilities, the Systems Division is better positioned to meet rising demand while continuing to deliver the high-quality refrigeration solutions customers have come to expect. As the Zero Zone’s CEO, Glenn Kormanik, said in his speech at the Ramsey facility’s open house: “Perhaps the most exciting part of today isn’t simply what we have completed. It’s what this facility allows us to do next.”
With these new changes, Zero Zone thanks its customers’ faith and commitment more than ever. Zero Zone pledges to continue to hold onto its core values and support those who gave them the opportunity to grow, or, as Glenn Kormanik put it: “Regardless of what the future holds, one thing will remain constant: our commitment to quality, our commitment to our customers, and our commitment to the people who make this company successful.”
